Thinking about checking out CCCP's Thursday Night Ride? Here's a peek at the early season course...Tall Sock Racing style.

Thursday, April 23, 2015

The Tour of the Battenkill is well famed for its truly stunning country side. As we rode the 68 miles of hills, quiet dirt roads and open plains, we passed through farms and historical residences that were likely first builds, and seemingly well maintained with pride. Cows, goats, sheep, deer, fox, ostrich and a few unleashed domestic (?) dogs filled the course with character.

The most publicized image is a red covered bridge, and you can see why below. This photo was taken of our teammate John Van Vranken leading a climb shortly after passing through the covered bridge.

This weekend was 70º and beautiful in upstate New York. As I write this it's hailing in Portland Maine. Time for....

Tall Sock Racing heads to Tour of the Battenkill

Our Pre-Race Course Ride:

Here's 6.5 minutes to get to know Tall Sock Racing at the Tour of the Battenkill.

This weekend was a rather epic one for our new team. We braved the historical "Queen of Classics" in Greenwich New York called the Tour of the Battenkill. This was the first road race this season for the team and the first road race for several team members. The nerves were apparently motivational.

We were well prepared and pampered by the rich accommodations at Hotel Brown. In Bennington Vermont. A big thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Brown for their warm hospitality. Waking up to backyard views like this was amazing.

Pre-race morning flew by with travel and set up, then suddenly we were at the starting line. The officials called out the start and the 68 mile race on some very unique terrains unfolded.

It was an outstanding course that held up its reputation as being a significant challenge. We had teammates in several categories and everyone road to levels beyond expectation. Not all was podiums and chocolate milk however. We did have one casualty from a early crash when a teammate was taken down from a crashed rider ahead of him. We hope for a fast and comfortable recovery for the "Stiv".

Today was the second Scarborough Crit Series race. We had a great team turnout.

Todays race was much more aggressive than last weeks. Speeds were higher and tactics more evident. A larger attendance, it was above 20º (mid-40's actually), made the field less readable while offering more skill diversity.

As a new team we raced well and best of all enjoyed the event.

Still waiting results but we know 3 rd and 5 th place where achieved.

Thanks to our families for the spectator support!

Here's a glimpse of the sprint to win.

Getting to know the team: TSR Debut...post ride coffee.

Today about half the team headed to the Portland Velo Club's Saturday morning ride (PVC SMR). It was the first time we got to ride in our newly received kits. It's also the first time we could actualize and enjoy all the hard work its taken to develop the team.

It was a peppy early season ride with a course average of about 23 mph for the 25.2 mile Strava segment "PVC Saturday Morning Ride".

Tomorrow we'll race in the second Scarbrough Crit Series race.

Easter Sunday

Our season opener was the Scarborough Crit on Sunday. It was a chilly 24º at the start of the race.

This is Maine cycling.

We race conservatively and the team took four places... 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th. We had a great time and look forward to racing yet to come.

Here's a peek at the bunch sprint....
